Trump Booed at Yankee Stadium Amid Heavy Security, Marking Second Chilly Reception in a Week

President Donald Trump received a chilly welcome at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, greeted by waves of boos from many in the New York crowd. Trump attended the Yankees’ matchup against the Detroit Tigers with heightened security, including bulletproof glass installed at the front of his suite.

The precautions did not block the sound of disapproval from fans across the stadium. While there were scattered claps and cheers, the overall reaction when Trump entered the Steinbrenner suite leaned heavily negative. Later in the evening, as the president appeared on the stadium’s big screen during the national anthem, the response seemed more mixed, with noticeable cheers blending with the ongoing boos.

Thursday marked the second time in less than a week that Trump was met with boos at a major sporting event in his hometown. Just days earlier, he attended the U.S. Open men’s final, where fans jeered as security measures delayed the match and left hundreds of spectators waiting outside the gates.

This latest visit followed Trump’s prior appearance at an MLB game in 2019. He attended Game 5 of the World Series at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., where he also faced loud boos and chants from the crowd.

Before Thursday’s game, Trump found a friendlier audience inside the Yankees’ clubhouse. He spoke warmly of his connection to former Yankees owner George Steinbrenner and voiced optimism about the team’s chances this season. “This year’s team would go all the way,” Trump told players.

For Trump, the visit underscored the complex dynamic between his political persona and the sports world. While professional athletes and fans have long had differing views of presidents in attendance, the repeated boos at recent events highlight a growing divide between Trump and hometown crowds in New York.

Despite the visible security measures and mixed reception, Trump maintained his public schedule and made a point to show support for the Yankees. Yet the incident added to a pattern of stadium appearances marked less by applause and more by audible dissent.
