Iowa Woman Arrested After Toddler Falls from Second-Floor Window

A woman from Newton is facing charges of child neglect after her infant fell from a second-story window. Angelia Varner, 30, was arrested on Monday following the incident, according to court records.

Police say Varner left her three young children, all under the age of 9, unattended in their apartment while she stepped outside.

Authorities reported that her 23-month-old child fell about 12 feet from an open bedroom window, sustaining a bruise to the head, according to the KCCI.

In the criminal complaint, Varner stated she had left the window open to cool down the apartment and that the screen had been torn for several months.

Witnesses reportedly told police that the children are frequently left unsupervised in the apartment.

Varner’s actions have sparked concerns over the safety and well-being of the children, with the neglect charge adding to the gravity of the situation.

At this time, the child’s injuries are not considered life-threatening, but the incident has raised serious questions about the care and supervision provided by the mother.

Authorities are continuing their investigation, and Varner is expected to appear in court for further proceedings.
