Angelina Jolie Plans To Sell Historic Los Angeles Mansion And Move Abroad

Angelina Jolie is preparing to leave her longtime Los Angeles home, setting her sights on a new life overseas. The Oscar-winning actress, 50, plans to put her historic estate on the market, according to a source who told PEOPLE she is ready for a major change.

Page Six was the first to report the news. Jolie has spent years living in Los Angeles, a decision shaped largely by custody arrangements following her high-profile split from ex-husband Brad Pitt. “She never wanted to live in L.A. full time. She didn’t have a choice because of the custody arrangement with Brad,” the source said.

The couple finalized their divorce settlement in December 2024 after an eight-year legal battle. They share six children: Maddox, 24, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 17.

According to the source, Angelina Jolie intends to relocate “as soon as Knox and Viv turn 18 next year,” and she has already begun looking at possible destinations abroad. “She’ll be very happy when she’s able to leave Los Angeles,” the insider added.

The Los Angeles estate is a property steeped in Hollywood history. Built in 1913, it was purchased by Jolie in 2017 for $24.5 million, making it one of the most expensive residential sales in Los Angeles that year. The sprawling home includes six bedrooms, ten bathrooms, and covers 11,000 square feet.

The property was originally bought by legendary filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille in 1916 for less than $28,000. Over the years, DeMille expanded it by acquiring and merging it with the neighboring home once occupied by Charlie Chaplin. The result was a unique, private compound that reflects Hollywood’s golden age.

An insider close to Jolie said she plans to make minor updates to the property before listing it for sale. “It’s a historic masterpiece and truly such a beautiful estate,” the source said.

Jolie has long expressed a desire to live abroad. In past interviews, she has spoken about her love for spending time in other countries, often linked to her humanitarian work and filmmaking projects. Her global interests and career commitments frequently take her overseas, but until now, the custody agreement with Pitt has kept her based in Los Angeles.

The decision to sell and move is seen by those close to her as a fresh start after years of legal disputes and public scrutiny. Friends say she is eager to embrace a lifestyle with more privacy and opportunities for international travel once her youngest children reach adulthood.

Real estate experts note that a property with such historical significance and celebrity ownership will attract considerable interest from high-profile buyers. Given the estate’s location in Los Feliz, its rich history, and its expansive size, it could command a price significantly higher than Jolie’s purchase figure in 2017.

As Jolie prepares for this next chapter, the sale of the DeMille estate will mark the end of an era in her life—and the closing of a door on her long-standing presence in Los Angeles.
