Prince Harry’s recent efforts to initiate “peace talks” with King Charles may be part of a larger strategy crafted by his wife, Meghan Markle, according to royal commentators. The Duke of Sussex’s strained relationship with the Royal Family returned to headlines after reports emerged of a private meeting in London between Harry’s communications team and King Charles’s aides.
The meeting, quietly held last week, was dubbed a “peace summit” by several media outlets, raising hopes of a possible reconciliation. Harry is expected to return to the UK in September for the annual WellChild Awards, a charity event he has long supported. Speculation is mounting that this visit could include a face-to-face meeting with the monarch, potentially their first in over a year.
While many see the renewed dialogue as a step toward mending familial rifts, some royal experts are questioning the timing and motives behind the apparent thawing of relations, suggesting it may align with Meghan’s broader personal and professional goals.

Valentine Low, former royal correspondent for The Times, told The Sun that the peace effort could significantly benefit the Duchess of Sussex. “There’s also the interesting question, perhaps quite cynically, if they reconcile and the relationship with the Royal Family becomes one of warmth,” Low said.
“I think it will only do Meghan’s reputation something good and help her expand the brand Meghan.” Broadcaster Sarah Hewson echoed the sentiment, suggesting Meghan’s strategic thinking may be guiding the current moves. “Meghan is someone with a game plan. Nothing happens by accident, and I think Harry relies on Meghan for a lot of guidance through life,” she explained.
“Meghan’s got her own plans and business. What is Harry’s? He does look lost and isolated by himself in Montecito. His father’s health is certainly a big wake-up call.” Hewson also emphasized that a genuine reconciliation would require more than just aide-level talks. “I think for these talks to happen, Harry will need to speak to his father one-on-one,” she added. “This will be really important as there is a big trust issue.”

As the possibility of a royal reunion looms, speculation continues over whether Harry’s olive branch is part of a personal desire to reconnect with his family or a calculated move influenced by the ambitions of the couple’s evolving public narrative. For now, the palace remains tight-lipped, but September’s visit could prove to be a defining moment in the ongoing saga of the Sussexes and their royal ties.
