King Charles and Prince Harry are reportedly taking meaningful steps toward reconciliation, with recent talks suggesting a brighter future may be possible after years of estrangement. The informal discussions mark a potential turning point in the five-year rift that began when the Duke of Sussex stepped back from royal duties and relocated to the United States in 2020.
Royal expert Emily Ferguson, writing for Express, offered insight into the significance of these new talks. “Father and son have had a fraught relationship since Harry and Meghan decided to quit as senior royals in favour of a new life in America,” she wrote. “In the five years since Megxit, the couple have levelled numerous public attacks at the Firm, souring relations with not just the King, but the wider Royal Family.”
Despite the tension and high-profile criticism, recent discussions between King Charles and Prince Harry are described as informal and constructive. “No battle lines were drawn,” Ferguson noted. “Simply an informal conversation between two sides who clearly want the same thing: a way forward and an end to the bitter feud that has engulfed the House of Windsor.”
The talks reportedly focused not on rehashing past grievances, but on rebuilding a path forward. King Charles, who has faced multiple family challenges and public scrutiny during his reign, is said to be placing renewed emphasis on unity and healing.

Regarding Harry’s older brother, Prince William, Ferguson acknowledged that reconciliation there may be more difficult. “They said that if William were to receive an apology, the situation may improve,” she wrote. “But even then, so much has been said that it’s impossible for their relationship to return to how it was.”
At the core of the royal fallout, Ferguson suggested, lies the issue of trust. “The heart of the issue is trust, so Harry needs to prove that he will stop publicly attacking the Royal Family once and for all,” she concluded.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s move to California and their subsequent media interviews, including the high-profile Oprah Winfrey special and the publication of Harry’s memoir Spare, significantly widened the divide between them and the rest of the royal family. However, this latest development suggests that—at least between father and son—there may still be hope for reconciliation.
While no official statements have been released from Buckingham Palace or the Sussexes’ representatives, the reported talks offer a rare glimpse of progress in a saga that has captivated and divided royal watchers around the world.
