Prince Harry is reportedly facing personal and professional challenges as he navigates life in the United States, with royal historian Marlene Koenig suggesting the Duke of Sussex is still struggling to establish himself as the primary breadwinner for his family.
In a candid interview with Us Weekly, Koenig shed light on Harry’s current predicament, noting that while he remains committed to building a new life alongside Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, financial independence has proven more elusive than expected.
“I’m not sure if Harry has regrets about leaving as he is determined to build a new life in the U.S.,” Koenig began. “But he hasn’t been entirely successful, especially in terms of earning money for the family,” she added, acknowledging that the financial burden appears to have shifted toward Meghan.
Koenig explained that during the planning and execution of “Megxit,” Harry’s intended role was never that of a traditional financial provider. “He was always expected to play a supportive but not a supporting role,” she noted.

While the Duke may enjoy the comfort of a luxurious lifestyle in Montecito, California, Koenig believes that something remains missing. “He may be comfortable in his California home with his wife and two adorable children, but what he hasn’t found yet is the comfort of success outside at home,” she concluded.
The contrast between Harry’s current professional standing and Meghan’s rising business profile is becoming increasingly apparent. While the Duke has no major public ventures on the horizon, Meghan Markle continues to expand her portfolio.
Recently, the Duchess wrapped production on her new podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, which has been gaining media traction. In addition, the second drop of her lifestyle brand As Ever reportedly sold out within days of release, signaling strong consumer interest.
Meghan has also announced plans for a second installment of her digital series, With Love, Meghan, further solidifying her position as a media and lifestyle entrepreneur. As public interest in the couple’s post-royal ventures continues, royal watchers are keen to see whether Harry will find a professional path that mirrors Meghan’s current momentum.
While the Duke remains a prominent figure globally, his ability to secure long-term, standalone success in the U.S. remains a work in progress. Koenig’s insights suggest that Harry’s quest for personal fulfillment and professional identity outside of royal life is far from over, and may continue to evolve in the years to come.
