Prince Harry’s decision not to appear in the second season of With Love, Meghan has raised questions about why the Duke of Sussex chose to step away from the Netflix project.
Royal commentator Jennie Bond, a former BBC correspondent, shared her thoughts with The Mirror and pointed out the contrast between the couple’s approach in season one and season two.
In the final episode of season one, Prince Harry made a cameo appearance during a dinner party that was hosted for friends and family. His presence added a personal touch to Meghan Markle’s show and signaled a united front at the time.
Now, according to Bond, his absence in the new season may reflect a subtle but significant change. “They are going their own ways now,” she said, suggesting that “Harry has taken a conscious step back and this is Meghan’s thing.”
She explained further, “The influence celebrity social media path wasn’t Harry. He’s doing things which are quasi royalty, the sort of stuff he was comfortable doing in his previous life.”
Bond also shared her view on Meghan’s current outlook, noting that she has found her footing since returning to the United States. “I think [Meghan’s] probably feeling a lot stronger now back in her home country and her own patch, and talking her own sort of California speak,” she said.
“As it stands, she’s better rooted and happier and dealing with things in a more resilient fashion because of where she was.” Bond’s comments highlight the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the couple’s individual pursuits since stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
While Harry has focused on charitable work, his memoir, and projects tied to his Invictus Games foundation, Meghan has leaned further into media ventures, including podcasts and her Netflix collaborations.
The contrast between their approaches has fueled speculation about how they plan to shape their public roles in the coming years. For Meghan, With Love, Meghan is an opportunity to tell stories in her own voice. For Harry, Bond suggests, the path forward may be closer to the traditional roles he once carried out as a working royal.
