Ben Affleck is reportedly heartbroken all over again, years after his split from Jennifer Garner, as she’s now rumoured to be getting engaged to her long-time boyfriend, John Miller. The news seems to have hit Affleck hard, reopening old wounds that never quite healed, especially from one particularly emotional therapy session back in 2018.
According to Radar Online, the actor is said to be “devastated” over the idea of Garner, 52, moving forward with Miller, 46, whom she’s been seeing since 2018. The pain seems to stem not just from the fact that she’s found happiness, but from Affleck’s belief that he may have blown his one shot at getting her back—during a rehab therapy session that was supposed to bring closure.

“He and Jen went into that session to create a clean slate, especially for the kids,” a source told the outlet. But instead of closure, Affleck walked away feeling like he’d sealed his fate. “He now fears his honesty has backfired and Jen will never take him back.”
The session, which took place at The Canyons rehab facility in Malibu, reportedly involved Affleck opening up about his past infidelities, including the highly publicised allegations involving the family’s former nanny. It was, by all accounts, a brutally raw two-hour meeting that left both Affleck and Garner in tears. The moment, meant to be healing, ended up reopening deep emotional wounds.
At the time, the couple was trying to set a better co-parenting foundation for their three kids—Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel. But Affleck’s confession, while heartfelt, seems to have left a scar he’s still carrying. “It was really painful at the time,” said the insider. “He’s still haunted with shame over it now.”
The actor, who has struggled publicly with alcoholism, had already been to rehab twice before—once in 2001 and again in 2017. In 2018, after another relapse, it was Garner herself who staged an intervention, personally driving him to rehab with an addiction specialist.

Since their divorce was finalized in October 2018, Affleck dated a few others before reuniting with Jennifer Lopez. The two married in 2022, but that, too, didn’t last—Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024, with the split finalized early this year.
Despite everything, it seems Affleck still quietly holds onto hope for something that might never be. “He messed it up with Jennifer and secretly yearns to get her back,” the source added. Whether that window is truly closed now, only time will tell—but for Affleck, it sounds like the regret is very real.
