On the Monday, May 19 episode of The View, host Whoopi Goldberg expressed surprise and appreciation for the bipartisan wave of support following former President Joe Biden’s recent prostate cancer diagnosis. Biden’s condition, revealed on Sunday, May 18, was described by his medical team as an “aggressive” form of cancer, already having metastasized to the bone.
During the segment, Goldberg and her co-hosts extended their thoughts to Biden and his family. “This diagnosis has been met with an outpouring of support on both sides of the aisle. It was surprising to see some of the people who wished them well, and it made me feel better,” Goldberg said. “It made me feel better about it.”

Goldberg also strongly addressed those accusing Biden of hiding his diagnosis for political reasons. As reported by OK! Magazine, she dismissed the speculation, asserting that any concealment during his presidency would have been implausible due to the necessity of undergoing visible treatments.
“Had this been the case while he was president, there’s no way you wouldn’t have known. Because he would have had to have these treatments,” she explained. “This is not something that he was carrying around or hiding.” In a direct rebuke to critics, Goldberg added, “Again, I want to commend the people who cut their tongues off and said get well soon. It did something for me.”
Her co-host Ana Navarro chimed in with her trademark humor, adding, “And the people who didn’t cut their tongues off: I have a place where they can put ’em!” Goldberg replied, “Well, I’m not giving them any sun at all. That’s why I’m not even mentioning it.”
Among those offering well-wishes was President Donald Trump, who posted a message of sympathy on his social platform, Truth Social. “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery,” Trump wrote.
Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., also put politics aside in his statement: “Breaking: Joe Biden has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Politics aside, we wish him a speedy recovery. Agreed 100%.”

According to People, Biden’s diagnosis came after doctors discovered a small nodule in his prostate during an evaluation of persistent urinary symptoms. A subsequent statement from the president’s office confirmed the diagnosis as a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5), signaling a serious and advanced case, though noted to be hormone-sensitive, offering a promising path for treatment. Biden and his family are now reviewing treatment options alongside his physicians.
