Sean “Diddy” Combs is back in the spotlight, and not for the reasons he’d want. In the ongoing trial that’s sent shockwaves through the music world, his former personal assistant has come forward with unsettling claims about Combs’ relationship with singer Cassie Ventura, and it’s painting a much darker picture than the glamorous public image once suggested.
James, who worked closely with Combs during the heyday of Bad Boy Records, gave emotional testimony in court this week, offering a glimpse into what was allegedly happening behind closed doors. He recalled a moment during a drive through Manhattan in an Escalade, when Combs spoke lovingly about Kim Porter, the mother of four of his children. “Kim is doing good, that’s my queen,” Combs reportedly said to ABC News.

But when the conversation turned to Cassie, who began dating Combs at just 19 while also being groomed as his musical protégé, James said the tone took a worrying turn. According to him, Combs referred to Cassie as “moldable,” adding, “Got her right where I wanted her, her-she’s young.”

That remark reportedly struck a chord in the courtroom, hinting at control and manipulation from early on in their relationship. But it didn’t stop there.
James recounted a moment from 2007 when he and Cassie were outside Combs’ Miami mansion, along with her then-best friend, model Kerry Morgan, taking a break for a cigarette. Cassie looked around and said, “Man, this lifestyle is crazy?”.

That’s when James said he asked her why she didn’t just walk away. Her reply, according to his testimony, was chilling: “I can’t get out. Mr. Combs oversees so much of my life.”James claimed that Combs had total control over Cassie’s career and finances, even managing her bank account. “He paid for her apartment,” he said. “He also gave her an allowance.”, according to the Washington Post.
These revelations come as Combs faces serious charges, including racketeering, sex trafficking, and transporting individuals to engage in prostitution. He was arrested in September 2024 and has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
James is the third person to testify so far in what’s becoming one of the most high-profile court cases the music industry has seen in years, and each new detail only seems to raise more questions about how much of Combs’ empire was built behind a very different kind of curtain.
