Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, who became the subject of social media attention with a photo of de Rossi taking a picture of a rainbow by their Cotswolds cottage, have reportedly moved on from the property. According to insiders speaking to DailyMail, the couple has bid farewell to their $15 million dream home in the Cotswolds and purchased a new luxury mansion just 30 minutes away.
While the couple’s former property made headlines due to rumored flooding risks, it appears that their decision to leave was also influenced by issues with neighbors. Despite rumors of flooding being disproven, concerns about a potential increase in flood risk after building an extension led to tensions with residents.

According to some of their neighbors, the couple’s construction project led to a “technical breach” in the planning process, further complicating their situation. One neighbor expressed concerns that the couple’s actions may have placed them “in peril of getting on the wrong side” of a prominenArchitectural Digest,t figure in the area.
The “planning clash” has raised worries about the impact of these developments on the village’s infrastructure and the potential for increased flooding in the area. In response to these issues, sources claim DeGeneres and de Rossi have found a new home with a “sustainable drainage system” that is better suited to their needs.

A property expert familiar with the area described the new residence as “a real Grand Designs number,” noting that the couple seemed to be “loving it.” Although the deal’s terms remain discreet, the expert speculated that the home had recently changed hands for a price not much less than what the couple paid for their previous property.
Despite this, the costs of changing homes were not insignificant, with estimates suggesting the couple spent hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of pounds on the transition. DeGeneres and de Rossi’s relationship dates back to 2001, when they met at a Rock the Vote concert.

However, they didn’t begin dating until 2004, after both had separated from previous partners. They became engaged and married in August 2008, in a private ceremony at their former Beverly Hills home. Following Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential election victory, the couple left their California properties behind and relocated to the UK.

Speculation surrounding their move suggests political motivations, a desire to avoid high taxes in California, and other personal factors. Known for their frequent real estate dealings, DeGeneres and de Rossi have bought and sold numerous homes over the years.
Notably, they purchased Montecito’s historic “Villa Tragara” for $21 million in 2021 and sold it later that year for over $35 million. The Cotswolds property now appears to be the next addition to their long list of buys and sells.
