More than a decade after announcing their split, Gwyneth Paltrow is shedding new light on her famously unconventional divorce from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. In a candid new interview, the actress and entrepreneur reflected on how the couple navigated their separation while still prioritizing family harmony, even living together for nearly a year post-breakup.
Paltrow, 52, opened up about her approach during the April 24 episode of The World’s First Podcast, explaining that she and Martin didn’t immediately go their separate ways after calling off their 10-year marriage in 2014.

“Chris and I lived together for like a year when we were already separated. I do think that it’s possible,” she revealed. The Oscar-winning Iron Man actress explained that she believes the traditional model of divorce is changing, especially for couples trying to put their children first.
“I think, now, people are thinking about different ways of separating and doing it,” Paltrow said. “Ultimately, if you’re saying you want to put your children first, then find a way not to do the thing where you’re cursing out the other one behind their back or dropping the kid at the end of the driveway.”

She added, “It means a lot in separation and divorce.”
Paltrow and Martin, who coined the now-infamous term “conscious uncoupling” to describe their amicable split, were married for a decade and share two children: Apple, 20, and Moses, 18. Despite ending their romantic relationship, the pair committed to maintaining a close co-parenting bond, and their approach has continued to spark conversation about how families can evolve after divorce.

Their decision to live together temporarily after their separation stunned many at the time, but is now being viewed through a more understanding lens as society shifts its views on post-divorce dynamics.
While both have since moved on — Paltrow married producer Brad Falchuk in 2018, and Martin has been in a long-term relationship with actress Dakota Johnson — their example of staying close for the sake of their children remains a powerful testament to modern co-parenting.
Paltrow’s reflections serve as a reminder that even in separation, there are thoughtful ways to move forward, especially when kids are involved.
