Don Johnson recently opened up about the key to his successful marriage with his wife Kelley Phleger. While attending the Los Angeles premiere of Doctor Odyssey, the 74-year-old actor shared with People magazine the secret to their strong bond.
“We are just so in tune with each other that there’s an unspoken trust, kindness, and respect between us,” Johnson revealed. “And those are the keys.” The Miami Vice star and Kelley tied the knot in April 1999 and have since built a life together, raising three children: Atherton Grace, 24, Jasper, 22, and Deacon Johnson, 18.
In a previous interview with Parade, Johnson referred to his wife as “a saint,” recalling a conversation with legendary musician Bob Dylan. “I was with Bob Dylan one time, and I was having relationship issues. Bob looks up at me and says, ‘Well, see, love is about kindness, trust, and respect, isn’t it?’ And that’s the embodiment of Kelley,” Johnson shared.
Reflecting on his marriage, Johnson emphasized how these qualities have been the foundation of their relationship. “It’s kindness, trust, and respect, and we have that with each other. We’re lovers and friends, and it’s fun. She’s an amazing woman,” he added.
