Recent reports emphasized that the King and the Prince of Wales continue to maintain a warm relationship, regularly speaking with one another. Their recent Balmoral trip was described as a “cherished tradition” with “no connection to recent family dramas.”
A royal source insisted the annual visit was “much looked forward to” and that the father and son’s time together was “in no way connected to recent family dramas.” The source added, “They speak very regularly, and there has been no fallout.”
Still, the question of what role Prince Andrew should play in the future of the monarchy reportedly lingers as a source of strain. According to OK! Magazine and royal author Andrew Lownie, William feels strongly that his father must take a tougher stance.
Lownie explained, “The Prince of Wales’ view is that his father needs to take a firmer line with Andrew.” The Duke of York has been a continuing source of embarrassment for the monarchy following his ties to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein and subsequent withdrawal from royal duties.
