Prince Harry has reportedly extended an apology to King Charles, with Meghan Markle also reaching out in what sources describe as a symbolic effort to repair strained family ties. According to RadarOnline, Meghan and King Charles spoke by phone earlier this month during Harry’s visit to London.
The conversation marked their first direct exchange in two years, a development insiders view as significant given the longstanding tensions between the Sussexes and the royal family. During the call, Harry is said to have admitted that both he and Meghan had made public remarks that were painful for the family.
“He acknowledged that some of his and Meghan’s public remarks had been hurtful. Whether Charles accepted it is unclear, but the exchange was certainly emotional,” a source shared. Another source described the exchange as short but meaningful. “The call was brief, but it carried weight,” they said.
“Meghan told the King she wanted to see relationships repaired. Harry was eager to show them both that the family bond is still there and that it could be rebuilt, particularly for the children’s sake. He’s determined to make it feel like one united family again.” For Harry, the apology represented a step he had not taken before.
“This was the first occasion in a long time that Harry actually offered an apology,” the first source claimed. Not all insiders, however, are convinced the effort will lead to genuine reconciliation. One senior royal source suggested Meghan’s call was largely symbolic. “Meghan’s call was more symbolic than substantial – no one believes a brief greeting can undo years of tension,” the insider said.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have had a rocky relationship with the royal family since stepping back from their senior roles in 2020. Their high-profile interviews and media projects, including the Harry & Meghan Netflix series and Harry’s memoir Spare, contained criticisms that deepened divisions within the monarchy.
