Prince Harry Apologises to Canada After Wearing Dodgers Cap During World Series

Just days after being photographed wearing a Los Angeles Dodgers cap at the 2025 World Series alongside Meghan Markle, Prince Harry found himself offering a light-hearted but “groveling apology” to Canadians and veterans during a visit to Toronto.

The Duke of Sussex was in the city to tour the veterans’ centre at Sunnybrook Hospital, where he met with staff and service members as part of his ongoing work supporting military communities. During the visit, Harry was gifted a Toronto Blue Jays cap, prompting an amusing exchange that quickly became the highlight of the day.

Accepting the hat, Harry began with a grin, saying, “Firstly, I would like to apologise to Canada for wearing it.” His comment referred to the Dodgers cap he sported while attending the World Series game earlier in the week — a moment that caught the attention of baseball fans across North America.

Speaking with CTV News, the prince went on to explain why he wore the hat in the first place. “Secondly, I was under duress; there wasn’t much choice,” he said with a laugh. “I was invited to the box by the [LA Dodgers] owner, so I was doing what I thought was the polite thing to do. But [taking the Toronto Blue Jays hat] I’m going to wear this from now on.”

The playful exchange continued as Harry poked fun at himself, joking about his thinning hair. “When you’re missing a lot of hair on top and you’re sitting under lights, you’ll take any hat that’s available,” he said, drawing laughter from those around him.

He then added with a smile, “Now that I’ve admitted that, it’s going to be really hard for me to return to Los Angeles,” sparking more laughter from the crowd.

The prince’s visit to Toronto holds personal significance, as the city played a role in the early days of his relationship with Meghan Markle. The couple made their first public appearance together at the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto, an event Harry founded to support wounded veterans through sport.

This latest appearance reflects Harry’s ongoing efforts to maintain his connection to veterans’ causes, even as he navigates life outside royal duties. His good-humored apology and easy rapport with those he met offered a reminder of the charm that once made him one of the most popular members of the royal family — even if his choice of baseball cap briefly stirred some friendly rivalry north of the border.
