Meghan Markle breaks silence after being accused of using banned royal title

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have released a statement addressing fresh confusion surrounding their use of HRH titles, following a recent podcast appearance that reignited debate over their royal status.

The clarification came after Meghan’s appearance on The Jamie Kern Lima Show, where host Jamie Kern Lima showcased a thoughtful gift basket she received from the Duchess of Sussex. The gift included homemade strawberry sauce and ice cream, but what caught public attention was the accompanying card, signed, “With Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex.”

The use of “HRH” quickly sparked a stir online, with many questioning whether the couple had gone back on their agreement to refrain from using their royal titles after stepping down as senior royals in 2020. In response, the Sussexes’ team moved swiftly to set the record straight, explaining that while Meghan and Harry still technically hold their HRH titles, they have chosen not to use them publicly.

According to a report by Hello! Magazine, the couple had previously reached an agreement with the late Queen Elizabeth II, allowing them to retain the titles but prohibiting their public usage following their departure from official royal duties.

The Sussexes’ statement emphasized that there has been “no formal legal removal” of the styles, but that both Harry and Meghan are abiding by their promise not to use the titles in a working capacity.

Meghan’s interview with Jamie Kern Lima was otherwise a heartfelt and emotional exchange. The Duchess opened up about personal struggles, her journey into motherhood, and her life with Harry and their children, Archie and Lilibet.

Still, it was the unexpected sight of the HRH title on the handwritten gift card that became a talking point across social media, where reactions ranged from supportive to critical.

Some royal commentators suggested the use of HRH was an oversight, possibly stemming from stationery that had been printed before the couple’s 2020 exit from frontline royal life. Others argued that even unintentional slips could reignite tensions between the Sussexes and the royal family.

As of now, there has been no further comment from Buckingham Palace regarding the minor controversy. Since stepping down from royal duties, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have carved out new roles for themselves in media, philanthropy, and public speaking. Despite their distance from official royal business, scrutiny of their every move, including the small details, continues to be as intense as ever.
