Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly reached out to the Royal Family in what appears to be a significant attempt at reconciliation—one that may be driven by growing financial concerns following the imminent end of their lucrative Netflix deal.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who famously stepped back from royal duties in 2020 to pursue financial independence, are now reportedly facing serious concerns about their long-term financial security. Their much-publicized Netflix partnership, estimated at around $100 million, is drawing to a close with no renewal in sight.

Royal expert Robert Jobson spoke to The Sun, offering insight into the couple’s motivations for re-establishing communication with King Charles earlier this month. “Well, the deal was always set about $100 million, wasn’t it?” Jobson said. “And the talk of that figure sort of blew a lot of people’s minds, but I think that was for productions and things that they’re supposed to have done.”
With the bulk of that deal linked to content creation and project development—of which only a few productions ever made it to the screen—the couple’s financial situation may not be as stable as once believed. “Where does it leave them? Probably with a bit of a bowl out, looking for some handouts,” Jobson added.
He speculated that the couple’s recent approach to the monarchy may have been a calculated move. “Maybe that’s why they were over with their staff, were over here having discussions with the King. I don’t know.” Reflecting on the couple’s prior statements about independence, Jobson noted the irony of the current situation.

“The reality is, in the past, they got support from the King and the late Queen, and they said they were going to go and make their way.” Since they departed from royal life, the couple has faced a series of professional setbacks. Their Spotify deal collapsed after only one season of Meghan’s podcast Archetypes, and now the end of their Netflix partnership leaves them without a major platform or income source.
“They’ve lost Spotify, they’ve lost Netflix,” Jobson emphasized. “They can’t rely on the spare money forever, can they?” As speculation continues to swirl about the Sussexes’ future direction, their renewed contact with the Royal Family may signal a shift, not just toward peace, but potentially toward seeking financial support or new opportunities within the royal fold.
