A royal commentator says Prince Harry may be struggling to keep pace with Meghan Markle’s media decisions after the Duchess released a trailer for her holiday special on the same night Prince William and Kate Middleton attended the Royal Variety Show. The overlap has drawn attention and, according to one expert, likely frustrated Harry.
The trailer promoted an upcoming festive episode of “With Love, Meghan,” a project that has already generated mixed reactions. Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told The Express that Meghan’s latest preview lacked the star power needed to expand its reach.
“Meghan’s new trailer for her festive special needed Serena Williams or another famous name to enable it to reach beyond the smiley, cringey world she has created, which isn’t likely to go anywhere new,” he said. Fitzwilliams questioned whether the series has delivered enough value to keep Netflix interested. “I strongly doubt that Netflix will want more of what she’s produced so far in With Love, Meghan, in the New Year.

You see this and wonder what is in it for the streaming giant.” The timing of the release added a new layer of controversy. Prince William and Princess Catherine were attending the Royal Variety Performance, one of the most high-profile annual events on the royal calendar, when Meghan’s trailer went live. Fitzwilliams said the Sussexes’ moment might overshadow the Waleses’ appearance.
“William and Catherine attend the Royal Variety Performance tonight, but they will probably find Harry and Meghan’s kiss gets more coverage,” he said. He described the timing as poorly chosen and suggested it highlighted the ongoing strain between the brothers. “The timing is execrable and [shows] Harry’s reported offer to share diaries hasn’t got very far,” he noted.
Fitzwilliams also questioned how Harry fits into Meghan’s growing media ventures. He suggested the Duke could find himself pushed further into the background as Meghan’s individual projects expand. “The trouble is, when Meghan’s festive show airs, he may be little more than an extra – he should beware, it may be a sign…!” he said.

The couple have not commented publicly on the trailer’s timing or on speculation about tension behind the scenes. Still, royal watchers say the overlap reflects the continued divergence between the Sussexes and the senior royals, with both sides moving forward in ways that keep comparisons and criticisms alive.
