“A fresh chapter”: Sarah Ferguson charts her own path as Prince Andrew’s Royal Lodge exit nears

The countdown is now underway for Prince Andrew’s departure from Royal Lodge, with the move expected to be completed by 25 January, according to HELLO!.

As the Duke of York prepares to leave the 30-room property in Windsor, attention has turned to what comes next for his former wife, Sarah Ferguson. After years of presenting a united front with Andrew, the former Duchess of York is reportedly ready to begin “a fresh chapter” on her own terms.

Sources say Sarah will not be accompanying Andrew to Marsh Farm, the property on King Charles’s Sandringham estate where he is expected to relocate. She is also not planning to move in with their eldest daughter, Princess Beatrice, at her home in the Cotswolds. Instead, she is said to be considering a range of options while she looks for a place of her own.

One possibility under consideration is staying with her younger daughter, Princess Eugenie, who is based in Portugal. Those close to the situation suggest that Sarah is taking time to reflect on her next steps, rather than rushing into a permanent decision.

A source told HELLO! that although Sarah has stood by Andrew for years, she now feels ready to move forward more independently. The same insider said Andrew has become increasingly withdrawn, distancing himself from the outside world, no longer reading newspapers, and remaining in what was described as his own bubble.

The emotional toll of recent events has been significant. While Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie continue to spend time with their father, Sarah is said to be deeply shaken by the events of the past year.

Andrew and Sarah have lived at Royal Lodge since 2004, long after their divorce, and have maintained an unusually close relationship. That arrangement began to unravel after Andrew was stripped of his royal titles last October following his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The consequences extended beyond Andrew himself. Sarah also lost her courtesy title of Duchess of York when her former husband’s dukedom was removed.

Despite the upheaval surrounding their parents, Beatrice and Eugenie have not been affected in terms of status. Both princesses have retained their HRH styles and titles and continue to live largely away from public controversy.

Signs of change have been increasingly visible around Royal Lodge. Removal vans have recently been seen at the property, suggesting preparations for Andrew’s departure are well underway. Meanwhile, Marsh Farm has reportedly undergone noticeable upgrades, including new security fencing and additional lighting, in anticipation of his arrival.

As the move date approaches, it appears that both Andrew and Sarah are entering new phases of their lives, separately but shaped by the same turbulent chapter in royal history.
