Trump Slams Harvard Over Foreign Students, Threatens $3 Billion Funding Cut

President Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on Harvard University, accusing the Ivy League institution of admitting thousands of international students whose home countries “pay nothing” toward their education, while threatening to strip the university of billions in federal funding.

In a fiery series of Truth Social posts, Trump defended his administration’s recent move to block Harvard from enrolling foreign students, alleging that 31 percent of the student body comes from “foreign lands” and demanding transparency from the university.

“Why isn’t Harvard saying that almost 31% of their students are from FOREIGN LANDS, and yet those countries, some not at all friendly to the United States, pay NOTHING toward their students’ education, nor do they ever intend to?” Trump wrote on Sunday, May 25. “We want to know who those foreign students are, a reasonable request since we give Harvard BILLIONS OF DOLLARS.”

Trump continued, accusing Harvard of withholding critical information. “Harvard has $52,000,000, use it, and stop asking for the Federal Government to continue GRANTING money to you!” The clash escalated earlier this month when the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced it would suspend Harvard’s ability to host and enroll international students, according to Fox News.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem issued a letter instructing hundreds of current foreign students to either transfer to other institutions or leave the country entirely. According to the Daily Mail, Noem cited claims that Harvard fostered antisemitism and collaborated with the Chinese Communist Party to manipulate student visa policies.

Harvard fired back with a federal lawsuit, arguing that the administration’s actions are unconstitutional. The university’s complaint called the move “a blatant violation of the First Amendment, the Due Process Clause, and the Administrative Procedure Act.”

“It is the latest act by the government in clear retaliation for Harvard exercising its First Amendment rights to reject the government’s demands to control Harvard’s governance, curriculum, and the ‘ideology’ of its faculty and students,” the lawsuit read.

A judge temporarily blocked the DHS directive, allowing Harvard’s international students to remain in the country, at least for now. Unfazed by the ruling, Trump reignited the dispute by threatening to revoke Harvard’s $3 billion grant unless it complies with his demand for a full list of its international students.

“We are still waiting for the Foreign Student Lists from Harvard so that we can determine… how many radicalized lunatics, troublemakers all, should not be let back into our Country,” Trump wrote. In a follow-up post, he added, “I am considering taking Three Billion Dollars of Grant Money away from a very antisemitic Harvard, and giving it to TRADE SCHOOLS all across our land.”
