On Thursday, former President Donald Trump returned to the social media platform X, where he issued a stark warning to his followers about the potential consequences if Vice President Kamala Harris were elected president on November 5. In his characteristic style, Trump suggested that Harris and her supporters were planning to create chaos if they gained power.
“At the Democrat Convention, they said, ‘We’ve got 70 days to act right…After 70 days, we can go back to acting crazy!'” Trump wrote. “What they mean is that they want to get Elected, and then destroy our Country with Radical Left, Marxist/Socialist Policies.”
The quote Trump referenced was actually a joke made by Rev. Mark Thompson during an address to the Black Caucus panel at the Democratic National Convention, as reported by Fox News. Nevertheless, Trump and his campaign seized on the comment, portraying it as a serious threat to the country’s future.
“We can’t let this happen and, if it does, we won’t have a Country any longer,” Trump continued. “The U.S.A. will be reduced to ashes.”
Trump’s return to X, which comes amid fluctuations in the stock price of his own social media platform, Truth Social, was met with enthusiasm from many of his supporters. Figures on the MAGA right, including Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) and conspiracy theorist Jack Posobiec, welcomed Trump back with cheers for his “mean tweets.”
“We need mean tweets and America First policies,” wrote Gateway Pundit contributor Sharika Soal. “The DNC ONLY offers crime, race-baiting, and chaos. Trump 2024, all the way!”
However, not all reactions were favorable. Jonathan Hinkle, the spokesperson for a fringe group called MAGA Communism, criticized Trump for associating Harris with communism, arguing that Democrats are not true communists but “woke Zionist capitalists.” Hinkle added, “Communists serve the people. Zionists serve the genocide.”
In a lighter but pointed critique, right-wing commentator Ashley St. Clair, known for her controversial remarks about migrants, took a jab at Trump’s social media style. “Yes Trump tweets are BACK!” she wrote, before adding, “But we aren’t using hashtags anymore bestie.”
