White House Warns Nancy Mace Her Epstein Petition Move Could Hurt Governor Bid

Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina is facing new political pressure after joining a bipartisan effort to force the Trump administration to release the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case files. Her decision to sign the discharge petition has reportedly put her at odds with key White House allies, raising concerns about her future political ambitions.

According to a report from NOTUS, White House staffers have warned that Mace’s move could undermine her goal of becoming governor of South Carolina. The petition was signed by only a small number of Republicans, but Mace stands out because she is the only one currently pursuing higher office.

“Helping Democrats deflect from Republican success is not a good GOP primary election strategy,” one White House staffer told NOTUS. Another added that they “couldn’t imagine a dumber strategy to get Trump’s endorsement than doing what she did this week.”

Mace’s decision carries personal weight. She is a survivor of sexual assault and has spoken emotionally about the Epstein case. She broke down in tears during a September hearing on the extent of Epstein’s abuse of young girls, expressing frustration that so much information about the case remained hidden.

Still, her latest move comes at a time when her standing within the party has already become unstable. Mace has frustrated members of both parties with behavior some describe as unpredictable. One of the most public incidents involved an altercation with airport security staff in Charleston.

Afterward, she launched a series of online attacks, accusing the airport of lying and falsifying reports to damage her reputation. She also claimed Sen. Tim Scott would never face that kind of treatment, a comment that prompted Scott to issue a rare public rebuke. He called out her behavior and defended the federal workers involved.

The tension surrounding Mace’s petition signature now adds another layer to her complicated political path. It also highlights the tightrope many Republicans walk as they navigate loyalty to Donald Trump while attempting to maintain independent stances on issues that matter to their constituents.

For Mace, her support for releasing the Epstein files reflects both her personal history and her public commitment to transparency. Whether that choice ultimately harms her prospects for higher office is now a source of speculation in Washington and South Carolina alike.
