Laura Loomer Rages Over Senate GOP Leader Allowing 1.4 Million Illegals on Medicaid

A prominent MAGA influencer and staunch supporter of President Donald Trump has turned her ire toward Senate Republicans, accusing them of failing to protect conservative priorities in ongoing negotiations over Trump’s latest legislative push — a sweeping tax cut bill aimed primarily at the wealthy.

The influencer, Laura Loomer, erupted on social media following recent developments in the Senate’s version of the bill, specifically criticizing how GOP leaders have handled proposed Medicaid cuts. “How on earth did Senate Majority Leader John Thune @LeaderJohnThune just allow for 1.4 million illegal aliens to stay on Medicaid? Unbelievable,” Loomer wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Loomer’s outrage is directed at the Senate’s removal of a provision that would have added redundant restrictions to Medicaid eligibility, specifically targeting undocumented immigrants. Although such individuals are already ineligible for Medicaid under current law, the bill originally included additional measures to reinforce this.

However, those provisions were struck down by the Senate parliamentarian for violating the Byrd Rule, which mandates that all elements of a budget reconciliation bill must be primarily budget-related. This has frustrated hardline conservatives like Loomer, who view the removal of those clauses as a betrayal of immigration enforcement priorities.

The decision has fueled calls among some activists to invoke the so-called “nuclear option” — a controversial move that would allow the Senate to bypass the parliamentarian’s rulings entirely. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), however, has dismissed that idea for now, warning that excessive use of the nuclear option could undermine Senate procedure and dismantle the legislative filibuster, potentially empowering Democrats in future sessions.

Loomer, a far-right provocateur who has identified herself as a “Proud Islamophobe” and has previously made inflammatory comments about immigrants — including suggesting they be fed to alligators — remains a contentious figure in Trump’s orbit. Despite her extreme rhetoric, she has reportedly maintained direct communication with Trump and influenced his positions on key issues, even while facing criticism from fellow conservatives. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), herself known for extreme views, has publicly labeled Loomer a racist.

In an unusual twist, Loomer also criticized the GOP for cutting Medicaid too deeply overall, underscoring an internal rift among conservatives over how far to go in slashing public assistance programs while advancing the broader tax agenda. With Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” under increasing scrutiny, the tension between GOP leadership and the MAGA base is more visible than ever — and could prove pivotal in shaping the final version of the legislation.
