As the fashion world gears up for the 2025 Met Gala on Monday, May 5, in New York City, speculation swirls over who will — and won’t — attend one of the year’s most prestigious events. While the red carpet will be filled with stars from film, fashion, music, and politics, President Donald Trump and his family are expected to be absent once again — a decision that has sparked online rumors of an outright ban.
Social media platforms, especially YouTube, have been buzzing with claims that Trump is barred from attending the Met Gala. One YouTube Shorts video titled “Donald Trump is BANNED from the Met Gala” alleges that Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour personally banned the president due to their long-standing feud. Another video, “Celebrities banned from Met Gala,” also includes Trump on its list.

These claims are not entirely new. According to The Independent, Trump was excluded from the Met Gala guest list shortly after taking office in 2017. Ivanka Trump, his daughter and advisor, has not appeared on the red carpet since 2016, one year before Wintour publicly stated that Trump would not be invited again.
While the Met Gala has always maintained a carefully curated guest list, the apparent exclusion of the president continues to draw attention, particularly given the high-profile nature of both Trump and the event. Wintour, a powerful figure in both fashion and media, has long been known for her tight control over the invite-only affair.
Trump isn’t the only prominent figure to have fallen out of favor with Wintour. In 2016, fashion commentator and Project Runway mentor Tim Gunn revealed that he, too, had been banned from the event after making a tongue-in-cheek comment about Wintour. “It is very true. It is a crazy story, and as far as I’m concerned, it’s a very matter-of-fact story,” Gunn told E! News.

“I was asked what the most unforgettable thing I’ve ever seen in fashion and I said: ‘It’s easy. It was watching Anna Wintour being carried down five flights of stairs by two bodyguards — two big, hulking men — from a fashion show.’ All hell broke loose. It was insane. We’ve had an open war ever since.”
As the 2025 Met Gala approaches, it remains clear that the guest list is not only about glamour — it’s also about personal alliances, reputations, and long-held grudges within the world of high fashion.
