A 24-year-old Tennessee woman is behind bars after allegedly attacking her grandfather’s wife with a bat and leaving the elderly victim bleeding on the floor of her own home.
Allanah Samples, of Dickson County, faces charges of abuse of an elderly person and aggravated assault following the incident, which took place on March 23 near Tennessee City. She is currently being held at the Dickson County Jail.
According to an affidavit obtained by the Dickson Post, law enforcement responded to a home after receiving a report of an elderly woman found bleeding on the floor. Upon arrival, deputies from the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office were met by Samples, who allegedly apologized repeatedly as officers approached.
Samples’ grandfather, who was present at the time, identified his granddaughter as the attacker, telling police she had beaten his wife with a bat. When deputies questioned Samples about the incident, she claimed that her “mommy” had come after her with the bat first. However, when asked directly whether she had been struck herself, Samples admitted she had not.
The elderly victim, found on the floor suffering from a head injury, told deputies that Samples had struck her with the bat, targeting both her head and knees. The weapon was later recovered at the scene. Samples allegedly admitted to investigators that she had carried out the attack.
Samples was formally charged with aggravated domestic assault and abuse of an elderly person resulting in serious bodily injury. She was subsequently booked into the Dickson County Jail, where she remains in custody. Her bond information has not been made public.
The condition of the elderly victim has not been publicly disclosed, and no clear motive for the alleged attack has emerged at this time. Samples is scheduled to appear in court on May 25. The case remains under investigation.
