Tasmanian woman gives birth to her own grandchild

A 54-year-old Tasmanian woman has given birth to her own grandson.

Maree Arnold served as a surrogate for her 28-year-old daughter Meagan White who has no uterus and was unable to fall pregnant.

The gorgeous bundle of joy, named Winston, was safely delivered following a “quick” two-hour labor on January 13th,” Ms. Arnold told Sunrise.

“We arrived at the hospital at 7 am and by 9 am he was born, it was so quick and organized,” she explained.

“I feel really well considering it’s only been a week, so it’s amazing.”

Maree, who had appeared on Sunrise while pregnant last year, said she came up with the idea to become a gestational carrier for her daughter.

Meagan was born with MRKH (Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser) syndrome, a rare disorder that affects one in 5000 women.

“If I had my time again, I would do the same thing, it worked out perfectly,” Maree told Kochie and Nat.

Meagan said she was loving being a first-time mum to baby Winston, who is “not giving us too much grief” and “sleeping pretty well.”

“It’s hard to describe the feeling of when he was born,” she said.

“It was definitely a pinching myself a moment.”

Experts say mother-daughter surrogacy is very rare and it’s recommended that gestational carriers are under 40 years of age.

But Maree’s gift to her daughter proves that when you have love and hope – anything is possible.
