Wisconsin Man Who Killed His Pregnant Girlfriend and Hid Her Body in a Suitcase at an Abandoned Farm Learns His Fate

A Wisconsin man will spend decades in prison after pleading no contest to killing his pregnant girlfriend and concealing her remains in a suitcase inside an abandoned farmhouse.

Jose Eduardo Dominguez-Garcia, 27, was sentenced Friday to 40 years behind bars—25 in initial confinement and 15 under extended supervision—for the 2020 death of 25-year-old Rosaly Cindy Chavarria Rodriguez. The Chippewa County Circuit Court also credited him for 525 days already served.

Chavarria Rodriguez’s family had hoped for a harsher punishment. “It was two lives that he took away, one was my daughter and the other was the baby my daughter had,” her father, Jorge Chavarria, told WQOW. “I would like to see the Chippewa authorities give him the maximum penalty. I don’t want them to have flexibility towards him.”

Originally charged with homicide of an unborn child and hiding a corpse, Dominguez-Garcia reached a plea deal in January, admitting to first-degree reckless homicide in exchange for the other charges being dropped.

Chavarria Rodriguez was last seen alive on July 2, 2020, working at Sprecher’s restaurant in Lake Delton. Dominguez-Garcia, her ex-boyfriend, allegedly told investigators they had broken up after he discovered she was pregnant by another man. Weeks later, he collected her final paycheck from the restaurant.

Her disappearance remained a mystery until August 2020, when police found her abandoned Volkswagen Jetta with fluids suggesting a decomposing body had been in the trunk. Two months later, an informant led authorities to a vacant Wheaton farmhouse, where they discovered her remains stuffed inside a purple suitcase. DNA testing confirmed her identity nearly a year later.

Dominguez-Garcia fled Wisconsin but was arrested in November 2023 in Gladstone, Missouri, after police spotted a car with stolen plates. Chavarria Rodriguez, a mother of one, leaves behind a 9-year-old daughter now living with relatives in Peru. “She was a family girl, she was always responsible. She liked to study,” her father said. “That’s how we would like her to be remembered.”

Judge James M. Isaacson ordered her body released to the family, who have struggled to arrange a proper burial. A June 2020 doctor’s visit had confirmed she was seven weeks pregnant at the time of her death. The case has left a community grieving and a family demanding justice for two lives cut short.
