Texas Man Kills Girlfriend’s Uncle After Argument Over Cheating Escalates

A 21-year-old man from East El Paso has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly shooting and killing his wife’s uncle during a heated confrontation over infidelity.

According to the El Paso Police Department, Jaeveyin Antonio Porter is accused of fatally shooting 36-year-old Miguel Garcia at the La Estancia apartment complex on the 7900 block of Viscount Boulevard, near Cielo Vista Mall. Investigators said the violence stemmed from an ongoing argument between Porter and his wife that began on Halloween and continued through the weekend via text messages.

Police records show the dispute centered around accusations of infidelity. On Sunday morning, Porter’s wife reportedly went to church before picking up her uncle, Garcia, to help her ask Porter to leave the apartment they shared.

When they arrived, the pair informed Porter they were outside and asked him to open the door. According to police documents, Porter refused to let them in, prompting Garcia to force the door open using his body weight, local KFOX reported.

As soon as the door opened, Porter allegedly fired multiple shots at Garcia. Witnesses told police they heard between four and eight gunshots before seeing Porter flee the scene with a gun in his hand. Garcia’s niece, who witnessed the shooting, said she saw her husband run from the apartment immediately after firing.

Officers later found Porter at 1100 Sunmount Drive, a short walk from the scene. When questioned by investigators, Porter claimed he intended to open the door only after Garcia left. He admitted to recording part of the confrontation on his cellphone but did not call 911. The interview ended shortly afterward.

Witnesses at the scene gave statements supporting the account of an argument followed by gunfire. One described hearing Porter’s wife ask, “Why did you shoot him?” to which Porter allegedly replied, “I don’t give a f***” or “I don’t f***ing care.” Another witness reported hearing Garcia yell in Spanish, urging Porter to open the door before gunfire erupted.

Police arrested Porter later that day. He was booked into the El Paso County Downtown Jail, initially without bond. At a bond hearing on Monday morning, a judge set his bond at $250,000.

Investigators are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact the El Paso Police Department at 915-832-4400 or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers of El Paso at 915-566-8477.
