A 65-year-old man from Sheboygan is facing attempted homicide charges after police say he opened fire on a relative and a toddler during a violent confrontation at Wisconsin Home Health Care.
According to Milwaukee affiliate WISN, the incident took place around 10 a.m. on September 5 at the business located near Wilson Avenue and Business Drive. The suspect, identified as Pao Lee, entered the building armed with a 9mm handgun.
Court documents state Lee confronted a male relative who was holding a 2-year-old child. In the altercation that followed, both the child and the man were injured by gunfire.
The toddler was struck in the left chest, causing lung bleeding and a bruised rib. The child was airlifted to Children’s Wisconsin in Milwaukee, where doctors later confirmed the patient was in stable condition.
The adult victim was grazed by a bullet on the head and sustained minor injuries, including a bruised knee and a scrape on his arm. Despite his wounds, he managed to wrestle the gun away from Lee with the help of another family member, who restrained the suspect until police arrived.
Investigators say Lee admitted that he intended to kill the man and then himself. He allegedly told officers he believed the victim had sent inappropriate messages to his wife.
However, Lee’s wife disputed that claim, explaining that while she had received messages on Facebook Messenger from someone with the same name as the victim, she did not believe it was the same individual.
Police recovered a Rock Island Armory M1911-1AFS 9mm pistol at the scene, loaded with five live rounds. Officers also found multiple bullet holes and shell casings inside the business.
Lee has been charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and first-degree reckless injury. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
Authorities credited the quick actions of family members in preventing further tragedy. The Sheboygan community has been shaken by the shooting, which unfolded in broad daylight at a business that provides care for vulnerable residents.
The case will now proceed through the courts, where prosecutors will argue that Lee’s actions placed both the child and his relative in grave danger.
