The Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a missing Denmark, South Carolina, mother of three after she sent a terrifying message to friends warning that she feared for her life. “If you don’t hear from me in 30 minutes, he killed me,” the text read. “He has a gun.”
Megan Bodiford, 25, was last seen on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. Early reports suggested her infant daughter was also missing, but the baby was found safe on Tuesday. Friends say Megan’s disappearance has intensified long-standing fears for her safety, following what they described as multiple assaults involving the father of her youngest child.
Those close to her insist Megan would never leave her daughters behind under any circumstances. The mother of three, they say, was dedicated to her children and deeply protective of them.
Her boyfriend, Jarrett Haskell Davis, has an extensive criminal history, including pending domestic violence charges in Barnwell County. He was on parole when Megan disappeared. A close friend shared that she had contacted Davis’ parole officer for the past month, warning that he was violating the terms of his supervision and that Megan was in danger.
Megan’s phone has been inactive since the alarming message was sent. Friends told investigators she was last seen with Davis and a woman with brown hair. They expressed frustration, saying her disappearance might have been prevented if authorities had acted earlier on Davis’s outstanding warrants and their repeated warnings.
“She’s always been in danger,” one friend said, describing fears that have only grown with each passing day. While loved ones cling to hope, they are also bracing for grim news. “I want to tell her so much right now that’s happening,” another friend said. “I know she would laugh. But really, I just want to know that she’s in a better place and has some closure.”
Megan is described as 5 feet 2 inches tall and about 180 pounds. She was last seen wearing a grey T-shirt and Batman pajama pants. Anyone with information about her whereabouts is urged to contact the Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office at 803-245-3000.
No charges have been filed against Davis as of now, and authorities have not identified him as a person of interest in her disappearance. The search continues as the community rallies behind Megan’s family, hoping for answers and her safe return.
