Kentucky Father Allegedly Kills 5-Year-Old Son by Throwing Him Down Stairs

A Louisville father is in the spotlight after the tragic death of his 5-year-old son, with court proceedings highlighting the severity of the alleged abuse. Laron Gardner Jr., 24, appeared in court Saturday for his arraignment following the child’s death earlier this week.

Gardner faces multiple charges, including murder (domestic violence), first-degree criminal abuse, and fourth-degree assault (child abuse), after police were called on Tuesday to a home on the 2900 block of Conestoga Avenue. Responding officers found that the boy had reportedly fallen down a flight of stairs, and he was immediately transported to Norton Children’s Hospital, where he later died.

However, an arrest slip indicates that emergency personnel determined the injuries were inconsistent with an accidental fall. A forensic medical examination revealed “numerous severe injuries to multiple areas of his body, which caused his death,” authorities said.

According to police reports, Gardner was alone with the boy and his sister at the time. The girl told investigators that Gardner had kicked, slammed, and bitten her brother before pushing him down the stairs, local CBS affiliate WLKY reported.

During the arraignment, the judge emphasized the threat Gardner posed, saying, “There’s no question that Mr. Gardner is a danger to this community and a danger to victims that remain in the household that he was in and possibly to the community at large.” The judge set Gardner’s bond at $1 million and issued a no-contact order for all minors.

The case has shocked the local community, with neighbors expressing horror at the allegations. Officials have noted that the child’s death is under full investigation, and authorities are examining the household circumstances and family dynamics leading up to the incident.

Gardner is scheduled to return to court in mid-September, where further proceedings will determine the next steps in the legal process. The case has brought renewed attention to child safety and the importance of monitoring potential domestic abuse situations, with law enforcement urging anyone aware of child endangerment to report it immediately.

The mother and sister of the boy were not reported injured, and the focus remains on ensuring the safety of the family while the legal process unfolds. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the vulnerability of children in domestic settings and the consequences of violent actions within the home.
