Nebraska 21-Year-Old Woman Killed Hours After Filing Protection Order Against Boyfriend

A 21-year-old Nebraska woman, Michelle Gonzalez, was tragically shot and killed in an apparent murder-suicide just hours after filing a protection order against her boyfriend, police said. The incident occurred on Wednesday, February 26, near 84th and Sandalwood in Lincoln, NE.

Officers responded to reports of a woman being struck by a car. Preliminary investigations revealed that after Gonzalez was hit, two Good Samaritans picked her up in their SUV to take her to safety. However, the suspect’s car chased the SUV, rammed into it, and forced it to spin out and stop in front of a home.

The suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Ibrahim Alhamadani, exited his vehicle and fired multiple shots at Gonzalez before she could escape. Gonzalez was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to her injuries. Alhamadani was found dead at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Earlier that morning, Gonzalez had filed a protection order against Alhamadani, alleging that he had physically assaulted her and threatened her with a gun. A judge granted the order, but it had not yet been served by the County Sheriff’s Office at the time of the shooting.

A GoFundMe organized to help cover funeral expenses described Gonzalez as a “bright light in the lives of everyone who knew her.” It read, “Michelle deserved so much more. She deserved to live a long, beautiful life. She deserved the chance to see her dreams come true. But instead, we are left grieving the loss of a daughter, a sister, a friend, and so much more.”

Jacqueline Gonzalez, Michelle’s sister, told KLKN TV that she hoped her sister’s story would raise awareness about domestic violence. “She was the youngest of our family of seven. My sister was so strong, so brave. Even to her last moments,” she said.

Natalie DeRyke, one of Gonzalez’s closest friends, remembered her as a loyal and selfless person. “The amount of patience she had with people and just complete loyalty. Michelle would be the type of person to have $10 to her name, and if somebody needed it, she would give it to them,” DeRyke said.

The Lincoln Police Department expressed their condolences in a statement, saying, “Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of the victim. We were deeply saddened by her passing Wednesday evening and want to extend our condolences to those mourning her death.

We remain committed to uncovering the full truth of what happened as we work diligently to find answers and seek justice in her memory.” The tragic incident has left the community in mourning, highlighting the urgent need for awareness and action against domestic violence.
