North Carolina Mourns 19-Year-Old Teacher Killed in Drive-By Shooting at Home

A North Carolina community is in mourning after 19-year-old NyAsia Blue, a beloved assistant teacher, was fatally struck by gunfire in a drive-by shooting while asleep at her home. The tragic incident occurred early Tuesday morning on Jockey Whip Lane, where police found Blue with a gunshot wound after multiple rounds were fired into the residence. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities reported that a dark SUV was seen fleeing the area, but details about the vehicle remain unclear. Police Chief Stephen Dollinger stated that the shooting was likely not random, suggesting the suspect was targeting someone in the home. However, the exact motive remains under investigation.

Blue, a Hope Mills native, worked at Ms. Jo’s Child Care in Parkton, where she was known for her dedication to children and her passion for teaching. “She was so kind and sweet, had the biggest smile, and was also very funny. She had a great personality,” said family friend Candice Chavis. A fundraiser has been launched online to help cover funeral expenses.

The tragedy comes weeks after a similar incident in Atlanta, where a 9-year-old boy was shot while sleeping during a drive-by shooting. The bullet pierced his back and lodged in his leg, narrowly missing a major artery. Doctors warned that removing the bullet could risk paralysis, leaving it embedded for now. The boy’s uncle reportedly returned fire in an attempt to protect the family.

“I was asleep,” the boy told local Fox affiliate WAGA after being discharged from the hospital. “I was just crying because I was bleeding, and I didn’t know they were gunshots.” Surveillance footage captured two vehicles involved in the shooting, which occurred around 3:45 a.m.

Both incidents have highlighted the devastating impact of gun violence on families and communities. As Blue’s loved ones grieve her untimely death, they remember her as a bright, caring individual whose life was cut tragically short. Authorities continue to investigate both cases, urging anyone with information to come forward.
