Ryan Gosling may be preparing to launch into space on screen, but at home, his toughest reviewers are much closer to Earth.
While promoting his upcoming sci-fi film Project Hail Mary, the Oscar-nominated actor shared that his daughters with Eva Mendes have already seen several versions of the movie and have not held back their opinions.
“They give me lots of notes,” he said with a smile. Gosling explained that the girls have watched “multiple cuts” of the film and are never shy about offering feedback. He described them as “very critical and very honest”, adding that they are the only critics whose opinions truly matter to him.
The lighthearted conversation also touched on speculation about Mendes’ reaction to one of Gosling’s most unusual co-stars in the film, Rocky, an alien character created through puppetry.
Gosling laughed off rumors that Mendes was “jealous” of the character, making it clear that the reality was quite the opposite. According to him, she was simply a fan of Rocky and wished she could have spent as much time with the character as he did during filming.

Beyond family feedback and on-set stories, Gosling spoke about the challenges of bringing the ambitious project to life. The film required extensive work in IMAX format and involved complex zero-gravity scenes that pushed both technical and performance boundaries.
He also reflected on the idea of space travel itself and whether he would ever consider going beyond the planet in real life. While the film explores the experience through storytelling and visual effects, the actor acknowledged the fascination many people have with the possibility of space exploration.
Project Hail Mary blends science fiction with emotional storytelling, placing Gosling in a high-stakes narrative that unfolds far from Earth. The film’s scale and visual ambition have been key talking points during its promotion.
For Gosling, however, the most meaningful response may already have come from his own household. The film arrives in theaters and IMAX on March 20.
