In a powerful moment of reflection, Miley Cyrus has described the 2018 wildfire that destroyed her Malibu home as “the biggest blessing I’ve ever had in my life.” The pop star shared her thoughts this week during her Something Beautiful event at Manhattan’s Metrograph, speaking openly about loss, rebirth, and personal growth.
The Woolsey Fire that ravaged parts of Southern California claimed Cyrus’s $2.525 million home just one month before she married longtime partner Liam Hemsworth. That chapter, she said, didn’t just mark the loss of a house; it symbolized a much deeper unraveling, told People.

“Losing everything and being able to rebuild, and to be able to be purposeful and choose every piece that I’m gonna collect, or also just about the people in my life,” Cyrus said, reflecting on how the destruction reshaped her outlook.
She added, “And I guess for me, when my house burned down, a lot of my relationships also burned down, and that again just led me to such magic and to have so much gratitude.”
Cyrus and Hemsworth officially ended their decade-long relationship eight months after the fire, finalizing their divorce in early 2020. Though the split captured headlines, Cyrus now views the whole experience through a lens of personal evolution.

“I think what I would have told my younger self is to appreciate those darker times because, like I said, they are only leading you into the light,” she told the crowd, offering words that felt both personal and universal.
The Malibu home wasn’t just a luxurious escape—it was the site of her Rainbowland recording studio, where she recorded her debut album in 2005. Losing it meant more than property damage; it meant watching a place filled with memories and creative beginnings vanish in flames.

The singer also recalled the surreal moment she found out her home was gone. In a 2023 TikTok post, Cyrus revealed she was filming an episode of Black Mirror in South Africa when the fire hit. “Actually, as my house was burning down, I was strapped to a gurney with my hands locked in handcuffs strapped to a bed,” she said, referring to her role as pop star Ashley O.
But Cyrus kept going. The very next day, she was back on set filming the high-energy On a Roll music video, proving her resilience with a simple mantra: “The show must go on.”
