Katy Perry Testifies in $15 Million Lawsuit Over Montecito Mansion Purchase Dispute

Katy Perry testified remotely in a Los Angeles courtroom on Tuesday, August 26, as part of a lawsuit concerning her $15 million Montecito mansion. The 40-year-old singer and her ex-partner, Orlando Bloom, purchased the 1930s estate from 85-year-old entrepreneur Carl Westcott, who claims that he was not mentally capable of signing the deal due to his battle with Huntington’s disease.

Westcott’s attorney, Andrew J. Thomas, questioned Perry about her motivations for pursuing the case, asking what she hoped to achieve from the litigation. Perry’s response was direct: “Justice.” When asked about potential financial gains from the lawsuit, she acknowledged that the outcome might result in her losing money.

“I could lose money, lawyers’ fees, lost income from rental,” Perry said. The luxurious property, which the couple bought as a family home, spans 9,285 square feet, with eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, an infinity pool, a jacuzzi, an outdoor fireplace, and a three-bedroom guesthouse with ocean views.

Perry and Bloom initially envisioned the property as a residence for themselves and their daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom. Perry and Bloom, who met at a Golden Globes afterparty in 2016, became engaged in 2019 and welcomed their daughter in August 2020.

Despite breaking off their engagement in June 2025, Perry referred to their relationship as “family for life” during her testimony, emphasizing that she played a key role as “partner and adviser” during the home’s remodel.

The ongoing trial, which began last week, is expected to last six days. Judge Joseph Lipner is overseeing the case, as there is no jury. Perry’s testimony came on the fourth day of the proceedings, and her attorney chose not to cross-examine her. The singer is seeking over $5 million in damages, citing lost rental income and ongoing maintenance costs associated with the property.
