Heartfelt Farewell as Brad Pitt’s Beloved Mother Jane Etta Pitt Dies at 84

Brad Pitt’s family is mourning the loss of a cherished matriarch, as his mother, Jane Etta Pitt, passed away at the age of 84. The news of her death was shared through an emotional tribute posted on Instagram by her granddaughter, Sydney Pitt, on Wednesday, August 6.

“We were not ready for you to go yet,” Sydney wrote in a moving caption alongside a collection of tender personal photographs of her late grandmother, whom she lovingly referred to as “sweet Grammy.”

“If you knew Grammy, you knew she had the biggest heart,” Sydney added. “She taught me how to paint, how to be strong, how to lead with kindness… She was love in its purest form.”

Sydney reminisced about her grandmother’s powerful influence throughout her childhood, recalling fond memories that included banana split breakfasts, art sessions, and family trips to Silver Dollar City. “She could keep up with all 14 of us grandkids without missing a beat,” she wrote, highlighting Jane’s enduring energy and love.

The Pitt family has not yet disclosed the exact cause or date of Jane’s passing, though entertainment outlet TMZ confirmed that she died earlier this week.

Despite her son’s global fame, Jane led a private life and stayed mostly out of the public eye. Nevertheless, she remained a strong presence in Brad Pitt’s life. She notably accompanied her son to the 2012 Academy Awards, offering quiet support behind the scenes during key moments in his career.

Jane is survived by her husband, William Alvin Pitt, and their three children, Brad, Doug, and Julie — as well as a large and loving extended family that includes numerous grandchildren.

Brad Pitt has not publicly commented on his mother’s passing as of yet. However, the family’s grief is evident through Sydney’s heartfelt tribute, which quickly drew messages of sympathy and support from friends and followers.

Though Jane Etta Pitt maintained a life of privacy, her legacy lives on in the memories of her family — a woman remembered for her warmth, strength, and unconditional love. “She was love in its purest form,” Sydney wrote a sentiment that now echoes in the hearts of all who knew her.
