Emma Stone recently looked back on her unforgettable 2011 Golden Globes experience, sharing an awkward but humorous encounter between her mother, Krista Stone, and Angelina Jolie. During an interview for Vogue’s Life in Looks video series, Stone recounted the cringeworthy moment when her mom, sitting next to Jolie, casually asked the mother of six if she had children.
“That was a really, really fun night because I brought my mom, and we sat next to Angelina Jolie, and she asked Angelina Jolie if she had any kids,” Stone shared, clearly amused by the incident.
Her mom, not stopping there, proceeded to ask a series of follow-up questions like, “How old are they? What are their names?” despite knowing the answers. Emma Stone, with a touch of humor, added that her mother was just “making small talk.”

The awkward exchange took place at the 68th Golden Globe Awards, where Stone was nominated for Best Performance in a Motion Picture in a Musical or Comedy for her role in Easy A. Jolie, nominated in the same category for The Tourist, also found herself in the company of Stone and her mom that night.
Despite the strange interaction, Stone fondly remembered the evening. “The Golden Globes are these big round tables, and it feels like you’re just constantly running into all these people that you only see on TV or in movies. Everybody is shorter than you think they are, except for Conan O’Brien,” she recalled with a smile.
Stone also reflected on her appearance that night, poking fun at her spray tan, which she said made her look like “one solid thumb.” “Oh god, it’s the spray tan again. I look like one solid thumb. That dress is so pretty. Why did I decide to match my skin tone to the dress?” she joked.

She continued, “It’s such a beautiful dress, such a beautiful shade, and I really thought the tan was the move.” Though Stone now finds humor in the moment, it’s clear that the night was memorable for more than just the award nominations. From the awkward small talk to the infamous spray tan, the Golden Globes have certainly left their mark on the actress’s memory.
