Meghan Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Markle, has expressed concerns about never meeting his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, as he prepares to make a significant life change. The 80-year-old has announced that he plans to leave his California home and relocate, possibly to South East Asia, in search of a fresh start among “kinder people.”
The father and daughter became estranged in 2018, shortly before Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry. Since then, Thomas has not had much contact with Meghan, and his hopes of meeting his grandchildren have remained distant. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Thomas revealed his growing desire to leave the United States, citing his yearning to escape a “rut” he feels stuck in for some time.
“I am ready for a change,” Thomas shared. “I have felt stuck in a rut for some time and I am ready to meet new people and experience kindness.” The 80-year-old, who has endured significant health challenges, including two heart attacks and a stroke, mentioned that he has been living in California for the past decade and feels it’s time for a fresh environment.
In addition to his health issues, Thomas has voiced his concern about his strained relationship with Meghan, noting the possibility that he may never have the chance to meet his grandchildren. This fear has been particularly poignant given the distance that has grown between him and his daughter in recent years. Thomas admitted that despite his hopes, he doesn’t believe he will ever have the opportunity to meet Archie and Lilibet in person.
While Thomas has no contact with Meghan, he remains close to his son, Thomas Jr., Meghan’s half-brother. According to reports from The Sun, Thomas is looking forward to traveling with Thomas Jr. as they both plan to embark on a new chapter of their lives together.
