Jamie Lee Curtis is opening up about a painful chapter in her early Hollywood career, revealing how a harsh comment from a cinematographer led her to undergo plastic surgery, a decision she continues to regret.
The 66-year-old actress, daughter of screen legends Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, made her film debut in the iconic horror classic Halloween in 1978. Though she went on to star in hits like Trading Places, True Lies, and A Fish Called Wanda, Curtis said it took time for her to be recognized as a major star.

During a candid interview on CBS’s 60 Minutes, which aired Sunday, May 11, Curtis reflected on a pivotal and deeply personal moment that changed the course of her career and life. Speaking with journalist Sharyn Alfonsi, the Oscar-winning actress recalled an incident during the filming of the 1985 movie Perfect.
Curtis revealed that one day on set, the cinematographer refused to film her, commenting bluntly that her eyes were too “baggy.” She was only 25 years old at the time. “I was so embarrassed,” Curtis said. “As soon as the movie finished, I ended up having some plastic surgery.”
The decision, however, brought little satisfaction. When Alfonsi asked if the procedure helped, Curtis was clear in her response: no. He Halloween Ends star continued, “This is not something you want to do when you’re 25 or 26.” She admitted that she regretted the surgery immediately afterward—and still does to this day.
Curtis’s reflections shed light on the intense pressure faced by women in Hollywood, especially at a young age. Her story is a stark reminder of how damaging industry standards and casual cruelty can be, particularly for young actors still finding their place.

The honesty in her 60 Minutes interview resonated with fans and fellow actors alike, many of whom praised her vulnerability and strength. By sharing her story, Curtis continues to challenge harmful beauty standards and inspire others to embrace their authentic selves.
While her early years in Hollywood were marked by insecurity and pressure, Curtis has since carved out a career defined by talent, resilience, and authenticity—qualities that no surgery could ever alter.
