Adam Levine learned the hard way that not all “teacup” pigs stay small, especially when Blake Shelton is involved. The Maroon 5 frontman recently shared a hilarious and unexpected tale of pet ownership gone wrong during an appearance on the popular YouTube show Hot Ones.
Reflecting on the early days of his relationship with model Behati Prinsloo, Levine recalled how a sweet gesture quickly spiraled into a farm-sized problem. “My now-wife, then-brand-new girlfriend, she said she really wanted a teacup pig,” Levine explained during the interview.
“And I didn’t know what that was, but of course the first person I would ask [would be Blake]… So I asked Blake. I’m like, ‘What’s a teacup pig?’ He’s like, ‘I’ll get you a teacup pig. Yeah, give me five grand.’”
Trusting his The Voice co-star, Levine handed over the money, expecting a cute, miniature pig that would make the perfect pet. What he didn’t know was that Shelton was fully aware the pig would grow far beyond teacup size—but chose not to share that important detail, told Today.

Only a few weeks later, Levine and Prinsloo realized they were in over their heads. “We had to give it to a little girl on a farm,” Levine admitted. “We’re like, ‘Send us pictures! We can’t wait to not be responsible for this animal anymore! Just show us pictures!’”
Six months later, the couple got a photo update—and the sight left Levine stunned. “She sends us a picture like six months later, and the pig is like 400 pounds,” he said. “I’m like, ‘Dude, what if this animal had grown to be this big in my house?!’”
The story, while lighthearted, serves as a classic example of country prankster Blake Shelton’s sense of humor—and a cautionary tale about trusting friends with farm animal advice.
Levine, now 46, and Prinsloo have been married since 2014 and share three children. Although the pig didn’t last long in their home, the experience clearly left a lasting impression—and a memorable laugh for fans.
As for the pig, it’s presumably enjoying a much more appropriate life on the farm, far from the spotlight and California living room carpets.
