Orlando Bloom has revealed that he remains in contact with Johnny Depp while expressing interest in a possible reunion for a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
Bloom spoke about the future of the Disney franchise during the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, where he was promoting his new drama Bucking Fastard. The actor confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that he still speaks with Depp occasionally and praised his former co-star.
“I do connect with him every now and again, because he’s amazing,” Bloom said.
The actor also admitted that he regularly asks about the possibility of another Pirates of the Caribbean film. The franchise has not released a new instalment since 2017, when Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales arrived in cinemas.
Bloom and Depp starred together in the original Pirates of the Caribbean films, with Bloom playing Will Turner and Depp portraying Captain Jack Sparrow. Keira Knightley, who played Elizabeth Swann, was also part of the central cast.
While discussing a potential return, Bloom said he was unsure when or how another film could happen. He also pointed to the strong nostalgia surrounding established movie franchises as a factor in Hollywood’s continued interest in returning to familiar stories.
Bloom previously said that a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie would only work if the original cast returned. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has also previously indicated that Depp could potentially return to the franchise.
For now, however, no new Pirates of the Caribbean reunion featuring Bloom and Depp has been confirmed.
