A New York man has been sentenced to more than a decade in prison after a jury found him guilty of attacking the mother of his children in a violent stabbing inside their home in Brentwood.
Albaro Chacon, 38, was convicted by a jury on Nov. 19, 2025, on multiple charges, including attempted assault, assault, tampering with evidence and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. According to a statement from Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney, the case stems from a brutal attack that took place in November 2024.
Authorities said Chacon was arrested after the woman he lived with, who is the mother of his two children, managed to call for help after the assault. Prosecutors described a terrifying sequence of events that unfolded in the middle of the night inside the home the couple shared.
The woman woke up in bed to find Chacon standing over her, holding a knife. According to the district attorney’s office, he threatened her with the chilling words, “You are going to die here.” Despite the sudden and violent attack, the woman fought back in an effort to protect herself and a young child who was also in the room.
Her 2-year-old niece had been sleeping nearby when the assault began. According to prosecutors, the victim tried to push the knife away from her chest during the struggle. As she attempted to defend herself, she suffered stab wounds to her arms while “redirect[ed] the knife away from her chest.”
The woman ultimately managed to escape the room and run outside in search of help. She flagged down a passing motorist and asked them to call 911. When she ran outside the house, she discovered the two children she shared with Chacon sitting in a car parked outside their 6-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter.
Investigators believe Chacon placed the children in the vehicle before attacking their mother. Moments later, Chacon came outside after her. According to prosecutors, the couple’s young son got out of the car and pleaded with his father to stop attacking his mother. After that confrontation, Chacon returned to the house.
While the victim waited for police to arrive, authorities said Chacon attempted to clean up the scene inside the home. When the woman briefly went back inside to avoid him again, she noticed the smell of cleaning chemicals throughout the house.
Investigators later reported that the home “smelled of bleach,” and the bed sheets from the location where the stabbing occurred had been removed. Police arrived shortly afterwards and arrested Chacon at the scene. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where she received treatment for the injuries she sustained during the attack.
Following his conviction last year, a judge sentenced Chacon on Monday to between 15 and 17 years in prison. Prosecutors said the case highlights the dangers of domestic violence and the lasting impact such incidents can have on families, particularly when children are forced to witness the violence.
