President Donald Trump’s renewed effort to acquire Greenland has sparked fresh outrage, with one prominent political commentator saying the campaign has pushed America’s relationships with its allies to a breaking point.
Over recent weeks, Trump has intensified his push to bring Greenland under U.S. control, escalating rhetoric and policy moves that have alarmed leaders across Europe. His efforts have reportedly included threats to invade Greenland and the imposition of 10% tariffs on all goods imported from several European countries.
Trump has repeatedly argued that acquiring the island is in America’s national interest. However, experts have noted that many of his stated goals, including expanding U.S. military presence in the Arctic, could be achieved without taking ownership of the territory.
The backlash from Europe has been swift. On Sunday, a coalition of European nations announced that it is prepared to impose penalties exceeding $100 billion in response to the new tariffs. The group also issued a joint statement affirming they “stand firmly behind” Greenland’s territorial integrity, signalling clear resistance to any attempt to pressure Denmark into giving up control of the territory.
The controversy drew a sharp response from progressive political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen, who addressed the issue in a new video posted to his YouTube channel. Cohen expressed disbelief at the direction of U.S. foreign policy and argued that Trump’s approach is actively damaging the country’s standing on the global stage.

“The reality is that the U.S. is being led by an absolute deranged tyrant,” Cohen said. “But it’s not only his fault. It’s also these spineless, groveling sycophants in the Republican party who could serve as a check on his power if only they could find their own balls. But they won’t because they’re more concerned with not being the subject of a mean tweet by their god king.”
Cohen went on to describe the situation as deeply troubling, suggesting that America’s allies are now being forced into a role they should never have had to assume.
“It’s a sad day in the world where I have to sit here and root for other countries to uphold the values of my own country because the current administration and their hangers-on in Congress and the GOP are setting fire to our ideals, our reputation, and our laws on a daily basis,” he added.
As Trump’s campaign to acquire Greenland continues, the political fallout appears to be growing. What began as a controversial foreign policy idea has now become a flashpoint for international tension, domestic criticism, and renewed debate over the direction of U.S. leadership on the world stage.
