A woman was taken into custody this week after deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance at a home on the 26000 block of Southwest 135th Street. The incident led to the arrest of 35-year-old Jamika Jackson, who is now facing a felony child abuse charge following allegations that she assaulted her daughter during an argument.
According to the arrest report, deputies arrived at the residence and spoke with the victim, who told officers that her mother became enraged “over cleaning a mess.” The victim stated that Jackson allegedly hit her in the face before placing her in a chokehold. Deputies noted in the report that several witnesses were present and corroborated the victim’s account of the confrontation.
The arrest form also states that Jackson admitted to the physical altercation when questioned by law enforcement. She reportedly confessed to slapping her daughter, throwing her onto the floor and placing her in a choke hold during the dispute. Officers determined that the child’s statements, the witness accounts, and Jackson’s own admissions supported probable cause for arrest.
Deputies then took Jackson into custody on a felony charge of child abuse without great bodily harm. She was transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where she was booked into jail late Tuesday night.
As of Wednesday morning, Jackson remained behind bars. Her bond was listed as “to be set,” meaning she is awaiting her first court appearance, where a judge will formally determine her bond amount and any release conditions. No details were immediately available about the daughter’s age, current condition, or whether child protective services had become involved in the case.
Domestic violence calls remain among the most serious and frequent incidents handled by deputies in Miami-Dade County. Law enforcement officials routinely stress the importance of reporting disturbances early, noting that verbal disputes can escalate quickly into physical confrontations. In this case, officers said witness statements played a key role in confirming the sequence of events.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and additional details may be released once Jackson appears before a judge. For now, she remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
