Markle is set to play herself in the upcoming Amazon–MGM Studios comedy Close Personal Friends, which features a lineup of major Hollywood names. While she is said to be excited about stepping in front of the camera again, a source told OK! magazine, “Harry wants to back Meghan, but the speed of her ambitions has really thrown him.”
Another insider added, “He never thought their California life would turn out this way, with Meghan charging into the spotlight while he concentrates on his charitable work.” Those close to the couple claim the Duke’s discomfort is tied less to her cameo and more to the abrupt shift away from the quiet life they once hoped to build in Montecito.
When the couple left the UK, Harry reportedly imagined a future centered on privacy, family time, and philanthropy. Markle’s Hollywood return appears to signal a dramatic shift from that vision. Sources say the decision is partly financial.
A production insider explained, “The role might be minor, but it gives her something to build on. Meghan realizes the big paychecks aren’t a sure thing now, so she’s viewing this as a fresh start.” Another source offered a sharper assessment: “She views it as a lifeline – a chance to take back control of her story in Hollywood, and she doesn’t care what it does to Harry or their marriage.”
Meanwhile, Harry is reportedly moving in a different direction altogether. The Duke is said to be actively pursuing a reconciliation with the royal family. A friend of the couple claimed, “Harry still wants some kind of reconnection with his family, but Meghan believes that part of their lives is over.
