Prince Harry has come under fire for attending a high-profile event in Los Angeles while his family in the United Kingdom marked Remembrance Day. The Duke of Sussex was photographed alongside his wife, Meghan Markle, at a fundraiser gala on Sunday, where they posed with tennis star Serena Williams and singer Selena Gomez.
The images, shared widely on social media, sparked backlash among royal watchers who accused Harry of being out of touch with his royal roots, particularly on a day dedicated to honoring fallen soldiers — an event the prince traditionally attended while living in Britain.
Body language expert Judi James told The Mirror that, despite his public appearances in the United States, Harry’s recent comments suggest he still feels emotionally connected to the UK.

Speaking about the Duke’s new essay reflecting on British identity, James pointed to a subtle clue that may reveal his lingering attachment to home. “‘Though currently, I may live in the United States,’ is the fascinating line, though, both for its wording and its use of punctuation,” she said. “‘Though I now live in the United States’ would be a statement of non-negotiable fact. But Harry adds ‘currently’ and ‘may’ to make it sound less fixed and solid. The use of the word ‘currently’ sounds negotiable, appearing to hint at a return to the UK.”
James explained that Harry’s phrasing leaves the possibility open for change. “It’s a word that leaves things open, like: ‘I’m currently single’ would imply a desire to get married or ‘I’m currently unemployed’ would suggest someone is searching for work,” she said.
The expert went on to suggest that the Duke’s choice of words may indicate homesickness or a potential future move. “It sounds like a teaser in terms of a return to the UK… Harry’s choice of wording hints that he’s not only possibly homesick but that a return of some sort might be on the horizon,” James added.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and have since settled in California, where they focus on charity work through their Archewell Foundation. The couple has largely distanced themselves from royal events, though they continue to draw attention on both sides of the Atlantic.
While royal sources have not commented on the criticism, Harry’s absence from this year’s Remembrance Day ceremonies has reignited discussion about his strained relationship with the royal family and his complex feelings about life away from the United Kingdom.
