Prince Harry appeared to share a heartfelt message with Meghan Markle as he opened up about his deep connection to the United Kingdom in a new essay.
In his personal piece titled The Bond, The Banter, The Bravery What It Means to Be British, Harry reflected on what his homeland still means to him, despite building a life in the United States. The Duke of Sussex wrote with emotion about his enduring pride and affection for Britain, revealing that he misses its distinct sense of humor and camaraderie.
“Though currently, I may live in the United States, Britain is, and always will be, the country I proudly served and fought for,” he wrote. “The banter of the mess, the clubhouse, the pub, the stands – ridiculous as it sounds, these are the things that make us British. I make no apology for it. I love it.”

The essay, published under his own name, highlighted Harry’s nostalgia for British traditions and his admiration for the sense of unity he once shared with his compatriots. His words suggested a longing for the familiar parts of his past, especially the humor and togetherness he experienced while living in the UK.
Body language and communication expert Judi James told The Mirror that Harry’s words may also serve as a message to Meghan. “This is an important-sounding admission, too,” she said. “Most ex-pats yearn for jars of Marmite or English tea bags, but Harry is letting everyone know, including Meghan here, that he’s missing a kind of shared, intense, complex humour that he might not be able to get in the US.”
James suggested that the Duke’s essay reflects a subtle homesickness and a deep emotional connection to his roots. His tone, she added, signals that he may be trying to remind Meghan of what his home country means to him.

Since stepping down from royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan have lived in California with their two children, Archie and Lilibet. The couple has built a new life focused on philanthropy and media ventures, though Harry has continued to speak fondly of the UK in public statements and interviews.
His latest essay, filled with affection for British culture and humor, offers a glimpse into how he continues to balance his life between two worlds. Whether intentional or not, his words seem to echo a quiet message of longing, not only for the country he left behind but for the part of himself still tied to it.
