Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Follow Separate Paths Beyond The Royal Family

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry appear to be fully embracing their independent lives away from the British Royal Family, carving out distinct identities as global public figures. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were recently honored in New York City for their ongoing advocacy on mental health, a cause that continues to define much of their public work.

Royal expert Jennie Bond told The Mirror that the couple has clearly moved beyond their royal roles. “I think they [Harry and Meghan] have moved on from their royal roles,” she said. “They are now full-blown celebrities. And this award was for both of them, so it was natural that they made a joint appearance.”

Bond noted that their visibility now resembles that of Hollywood stars rather than working royals, a shift that aligns with their new life in California. Their public appearances often focus on issues such as mental health, social media safety, and community empowerment — areas that also continue to be priorities for Prince William and Kate Middleton.

“The two princes and Catherine were involved in mental health issues before Meghan came along. It is something they care deeply about,” Bond added. “The message that both couples are now promoting is that society has to do something about the dangers that the Internet, and particularly social media, pose to our children. It is an important message, and one that affects us all.”

The Sussexes’ award recognition in New York underscored their influence in the U.S., where they have built a network of partnerships through their Archewell Foundation. Their work has included initiatives on online safety for children, support for veterans, and advocacy for mental health awareness.

Bond emphasized that while the couple’s royal ties may have faded, their efforts still carry weight because of the platform they hold. “I think both couples should rightly be applauded for using their fame, be it as royals or celebrities, to highlight this crucial issue,” she said.

Meghan and Harry’s evolving public image marks a continued divergence from the traditional roles expected of members of the Royal Family. While they may no longer represent the monarchy in any official capacity, their influence has not diminished. Instead, it has taken a different shape — one rooted in advocacy, celebrity status, and a desire to use their visibility to bring attention to global issues.

Their paths may have diverged from the palace, but their message remains clear: they are determined to use their platform to make a difference.
